"Everything under control?"
A joint project between the Bautzner Straße Memorial and the German Hygiene Museum (DHMD) takes schoolchildren to two special places.
The guided tour of the former remand prison for political prisoners shows how surveillance by the Ministry for State Security (MfS) was organized and makes it possible to experience the serious consequences this could have. It also deals with the work of the MfS in relation to the German Hygiene Museum. In the second part of the project, in the German Hygenie Museum, the young people use specific examples to explore the relationship between the individual and society in the GDR. They can choose from the following topics: Everyday working life, health policy, leisure time, environmental protection, the GDR internationally and the socialist image of man. The visit to the memorial in conjunction with the exhibition in the German Hygiene Museum makes a variety of experiences in the GDR visible. In the end, we understand better why there can and must be very different and sometimes contradictory answers when it comes to remembering the GDR.
This is followed by a guided tour of the exhibition at the German Hygiene Museum.
After a brief introduction to the exhibition, the pupils work in small groups on selected topics such as everyday working life, health policy, leisure, environmental protection, the GDR internationally and the socialist image of man.
Duration: two times 90 minutes plus travel time to the DHMD

When booking your tour at the memorial, please indicate the time at which you would like to start your tour of the exhibition at the German Hygiene Museum. You will then receive a confirmation from the museum.
Participant price memorial: 5 € (Minimum price per group: 60 €, foreign language surcharge 20 €)
Participant price German Hygiene Museum: 4 € per person, from 16 years plus 2 € admission per person
